Days of jewish culture Olomouc 2017 | professional conference

In 2017, the public and the academic world commemorate several important anniversaries connected with the history of the Jewish community in Olomouc. It will be 120 years since the ordination of the Olomouc Synagogue, designed by the leading Austrian architect Jacob Gartner, and 150 years since the birth of the initiator of this building and the first rabbi of the newly founded Jewish religious community, Berthold Oppenheim. The international conference will focus not only on both themes, but will also offer a wider view of the Jewish history of Olomouc and Moravia since the mid-19th century, including, for example, contradictions of modern Jewish life, conflict of tradition and secular culture, or intellectual exchanges between Moravia and Galicia.
