WED| 25. 10. | 5 P.M. | MOZARTEUM | FREE ENTRY
Days of jewish culture Olomouc 2017 | lecture

Violin virtuoso Karel Fröhlich was one of the leading performers of the Terezín ghetto, and his play in the Karel Ančerl Terezin Orchestra captured a shot in the upcoming propaganda film Der Führer schenkt den Juden eine Stadt. Tomáš Hrbeks lecture will bring out his Olomouc roots, the tragic fate of his mother, his brother and the wider family, an attempt to emigrate, and the circumstances of Fröhlichs formal marriage before the deportation with the Prostějovská rodka Markéta Kleinerová. After his liberation in Dachau, Karel Fröhlich was briefly the concert master of the Prague Opera Orchestra and after his marriage to French pianist François Dupuy, he emigrated to the US where his descendants live. He has a grave in New York, but his name is also found in a Jewish cemetery in Olomouc.
