Jean Baptiste Mathey (1629-1696) was a French painter and architect from the Dijon painting family. From 1650 he worked in Rome in the studio of the famous countryman - painter Claude Lorraine. At the same time he studied architecture at Carlo Rainaldi, the leading representative of Baroque Classicism. From 1675 he worked in Prague, primarily in the service of the Archbishop of Prague, Valdštejn, who brought him to Prague. Together with Mathey, a progressive style of Roman Baroque architecture came to Bohemia
