(Josef Danhauser)
Ladies’ writing desk, (1830)
polished wood, turned and veneered; 68×122×138 cm, Olomouc Archbishopric – Archdiocesan Museum in Kroměříž, KE 2226
This Biedermeier oval table with a central drawer and inclined side drawers has a spruce framework with polished walnut veneer. The bases of the posts are made of walnut and the drawers of oak. On the underside there is a fragment of a paper label signed Contes Trojen. The table matches the type produced by the Viennese Danhauser manufactory. Similar oval ladies’ writing desks, inspired by French models, are part of the collections of the Österreichisches Museum für angewandte Kunst in Vienna, The Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague and the Moravian Gallery in Brno.
