CONTEMPORARY POETRY BETWEEN THE LABE AND THE DNIEPER

The eighth edition of the Václav Burian Prize (CVB) is both a meeting with contemporary lyricism in Central Europe and a commemoration of the legacy of the Olomouc poet, translator, journalist and polonist Václav Burian.

This year, the CVB will launch a musical-literary project by composer Ian Mikyska, poet Petr Borkovec and musicians from the Prague Quiet Music Collective.

As in previous years, a gathering of Central European poets from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Austria and, this year, Hungary will read excerpts from their latest texts. On this occasion, a booklet is published in which translations of the presented excerpts are available to the audience across the languages of the Prize. The live reading is the basis for the debate and the jurys evaluation, followed by the presentation of the Poetry Prize and the Prize for Cultural Contribution to Central European Dialogue. As every year, the Audience Award will also be presented. After the poetry part you can look forward to a debate with this years winner of the Prize for Cultural Contribution to Central European Dialogue, the Ukrainian writer Taras Prochasko.
