In 1880, Auguste Rodin receives his first state commission: The Gates of Hell. Subsequently, he meets Camille Claudel, a gifted young pupil who becomes first his assistant and later his mistress. Jacques Doillons film portrays Rodin as a sensualist for whom the process of making is a deeply sexual experience.
