Its been two weeks since Olomouc Museum of Art in collaboration with the Institute of Creative Photography in Opava published a book accompanying the exhibition At first sight, organized by the Museum of Opole Silesia in Opole. And on Sunday, November 6 has two-hundred book by Štěpánka Bieleszová and Vladimir Birgus awarded. In the competition for the best photographic publications from Central and Eastern Europe in the years 2015 - 2016, organized within the festival Month of Photography in Bratislava, the book won second place in the category of Historical photographs.
Publications in Polish, Czech and English accompanies the exhibition of more than two hundred photographs by leading Czech artists in the Museum of Opole Silesia in Opole. "One of the biggest exhibitions of Czech photography in Poland and publication accompany a viewer throught the history of photography in the Czech lands in the twentieth and twenty-first century," said Štěpánka Bieleszová.
The selection includes works and medallions world famous classics such as František Drtikol, Jaromír Funke, Jaroslav Rössler and Josef Sudek, photos by important postwar artists such as Miroslav Hák, Wilhelm Reichmann, Jan Saudek or Emilia Medková, but also contemporary authors Jindřich Štreit, Viktor Kolář, Dita Pepe, Milena Dopitová or Pavel Mara.
"When I heard about the award in Bratislava, it was for me a big surprise. I did not expect that. Im obviously very happy that the jury liked our book," said Bieleszová. The author of the graphic design of the publication is the graphic designer Art Museum in Olomouc Vladimír Vaca. The book has contributed Olomoucký region, Institute of Creative Photography of the Silesian University in Opava and the Museum of Opole Silesia in Opole.
