Sculpture

The sub-collection includes more than 1,300 items and is divided into two parts – a modest collection of old art and a much larger and more compact collection of modern sculpture. The collection of old art was created rather randomly and it is not a compact collection, in spite of which there are some unique works, in particular several late Gothic and Baroque wooden sculptures which are especially unique.

Modern art of the 20th and 21st centuries is represented by works of Czech sculptors. The collection documents all significant streams and styles consisting of a set of sculptures created from different materials (stone, wood, bronze, plaster, etc.). The centre of the collection consists of works of classic modernism from 1900 to 1930 (Josef Václav Myslbek, Jan Štursa, Anton Hanak, Bohumil Kafka, Josef Mařatka, Otakar Španiel, Otto Gutfreund, Karel Dvořák, Vincenc Makovský, Hana Wichterlová, Josef Wagner, Bedřich Stefan, Josef Vinecký ad.), a collection of works by the Skupina 42 group (Ladislav Zívr) and as a certain pendant to the collection of classic modernism, also a set of sculptures from the 1960s (Hugo Demartini, Jiří Hilmar, Eva Kmentová, Jan Koblasa, Stanislav Kolíbal, Jiří Kolář, Karel Malich, Karel Nepraš, Eduard Ovčáček, Zdeněk Palcr, Ladislav Zívr etc.) closely tied to other collections. Authors whose lives and work are connected with Central Moravia are also represented in the collection (Vladimír Navrátil, Rudolf Chorý, Ivan Theimer, Jiří Žlebek etc.).
