In 1945, Stalins power was dominated by Poland. Famous painter Wladyslaw Strzeminski refuses to make artistic compromises and serve the doctrine of socialist realism. He is persecuted, fired from the university, his paintings disappear from the museums. With the help of some of his students, he begins to fight the Communist Party and becomes a symbol of artistic resistance against tyranny.
